Introducing the Digital Page Blog!

Based out of North Carolina, Digital Page is a nonprofit organization with a mission to empower young women. We wish to aid in the development of future design-minded technology leaders and also build people-focused digital solutions. After analyzing the current tech field, we noticed overwhelming disparities and an alarming gender gap. Additionally, studies have shown that creativity declines as we age. We aim to tackle these disparities and lack of design mindset as they will only halt the advancement of the industry and limit the abilities of our future generation — a generation of trailblazers that has the potential to make a difference. We want to harness and expand their power and talent so they can create a beneficial social impact.

To reach this goal, we created three strong pillars that are aimed to Educate, Empower, and Inspire. These pillars will provide a strong foundation for the future generations of digital and tech leaders. We aim to educate by creating hands-on exposure, detailed training modules, and educational programs with experienced mentors and volunteers. We want to empower and inspire tomorrow’s future leaders by providing the tools, resources, network, and opportunities they need to succeed. We wish to create new opportunities and provide early-career exposure that prepares our young leaders to achieve their dreams. Our design-focused holistic approach will provide informational modules, tutorials, and workshops that will foster a design mindset and offer insight from our Core Leadership Team — a group of established professionals in the tech industry who can teach by example and pave the path to success for the youth. With our resources and mentorship, we will nurture and cultivate female and minority representation within all areas of the tech industry.

‘Behind every great man is a great woman’

Since the dawn of time, women have worked tirelessly behind-the-scenes to ensure success. Women, despite countless limitations, have proven time and again that they can do anything that they set their minds to. In times of oppression, such as during the Women’s Suffrage Movement, women stood tall and fought for their rights. They fought for their ability to get a college education, work the same jobs as men, and be their own independent people. However, the fight continues as some women still battle for equal rights and the ability to make their own decisions. It’s a hard-fought war that reflects the neverending challenges that women endure. Even so, women have been resilient!

Thus, March is Women’s History Month — a month filled with “commemorating and encouraging the study, observance, and celebration of the vital role of women in American history.” The month became a national celebration in 1982 as Women’s History Week. However, five years later in 1987, continuous petitions by the National Women’s History Project turned the weekly occurrence into a monthly observance. Over the years, the month has been celebrated with positive recognition and appreciation for the accomplishments of women in our nation’s history. Activists, entertainers, politicians, and the President take the time throughout the month to give praise and admiration to these women. WomensHistoryMonth.gov provides a vast amount of information regarding the holiday, shown through photographs, videos, exhibitions, and more!

Women’s History Month starts off strong with International Women’s Day taking place on March 8th. International Women’s Day (or IWD), similarly to Women’s History Month, focuses on “celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.” Today, March 8, 2021, marks the 110th International Women’s Day! Millions shared their excitement on Instagram, Twitter, and further. In previous years, people have gathered to celebrate these female inspirations or to protest injustices towards them. Furthermore, President Biden signed two executive orders regarding gender equality and sexual violence. The day is used to bring awareness, advocate for women’s rights, empower women role models, and more! For more information about the importance of IWD, visit the website: InternationalWomensDay.com.

Furthermore, this year’s IWD theme is #ChooseToChallenge. One of the ways we chose to challenge was to launch our Digital Page Blog. We invite our readers and future leaders to challenge the current technology industry and create one that is more accepting! Our blog posts will align with our aforementioned mission and wishes of educating, inspiring, and empowering. We challenge you to join us as we move to break barriers and prove that a future in technology does not solely mean coding. Currently, we have partnered with TechTogether to present at Hackathons and hosted giveaways where the winner has lunch with tech executives! We have a variety of events planned for this month — our first one being an Excel Tips and Tricks Workshop in ten days! Join us as we turn this (Digital) Page and #ChooseToChallenge the technology industry.
